The UNFCCC’s Standing Committee on Finance (SCF) invited submissions to inform the next SCF Forum on financing Nature-based Solutions (NBS) to be held in 2021. A group of NGOs – Rare, CI, NWF, EDF, WCS, WWF, SeyCCAT, and LUCKI – some of which are IPBC partners, prepared a submission detailing NBS financing opportunities and gaps from forests, agriculture, and coastal wetlands (including blue carbon ecosystems). The submission provides recommendations to the SCF for a productive forum, including encouraging an inclusive approach to the dialogue and a balanced discussion on mitigation and adaptation actions, which is important for blue carbon implementation. The submission also notes the importance of an open information exchange among public and private bodies and climate finance entities to promote coherence for advancing mobilization of resources towards NBS, such as conservation and restoration in coastal ecosystems.
