IPBC Partners are working together to connect and share expertise on blue carbon with the global community through events, workshops and knowledge exchange sessions.
The “Blue Carbon Policy Forum,” aims to foster global collaboration and knowledge exchange on the critical issue of blue carbon science and policy. This event will bring together government representatives, scientific experts, and NGOs from the Commonwealth nations to discuss the existing gaps and challenges to conserve and restore mangroves, seagrass, and tidal salt marshes. Blue carbon ecosystems provide habitat for marine species, support local livelihoods, adapt to climate change, and store carbon, mitigating climate change.
This event emphasises the need for effective, science-based ‘Blue Carbon Action’, and highlights the requirement for countries to have the right legislative institutional frameworks in place that consider legal right, access, while upholding and empowering community-based projects. The event will facilitate the exchange of best practices, strategies, advice, and lessons learned from three Commonwealth nations like Fiji, Mozambique, and Caribbean nations, on promoting the protection and restoration of blue carbon ecosystems and associated policy considerations.
